The Lord Bless Thee - Numbers 6:22-27. No matter how apostate the times or backslidden much of the church is, no matter how deep the downgrade of religion or rampant the error and recklessness, those who keep to the old paths wherein is the good way and seek this blessing may rest assured they will receive it. This is the blessing of the Lord for each of His people.
In Spirit and Truth - John 4:24; Ezekiel 33:31. I had many reminders this week that there is a people calling themselves the Lord's own who resemble those spoken of by the prophet Ezekiel in that text I just read. There is a growing disdain for the supremacy and immutability of God's Word. There is a general throwing off of the bands and cords which bind us to the Lord and keep us from grievous sin and ruin. So many today spend so little time carefully and patiently pondering the wonderful promises, the great doctrines, and the beauty of the Lord set forth in His Word. For my part, I am not the least bit interested in preaching an Arminian gospel, a neo-evangelical gospel, or a hyper-Calvinist gospel. Satan, a murderer from the beginning, is happy to shed the blood of the saints. But when it comes to weakening the church, crippling her work, and muting her testimony, subtlety has been far more effective for Satan. What the devil cannot achieve by violence and persecution, he labors to gain by subtlety and seduction. What Satan cannot achieve as a lion, he has a number of times come very close to accomplishing as a serpent.
