Changed into the Image of the Lord 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Pastor Ralph Ovadal 49 minutes 4/29/2007 The believer can look back over his Christian life and mourn his sin and failings. But it is important that we remember the Lord will never leave or forsake us. He has promised to change us into His image from glory to glory. By God's free grace and in His great mercy, which endureth forever, we know He will keep that promise and do that work. It is for us to avail ourselves of the means of grace which He has provided so that this work may go forward more and more, not less and less, as the days go on.
Below are some more recent additions from January through April, 2007.
Sanctification Discussed - 1 Thessalonians 4:3. Since sanctification is a spiritual work, we must seek to be sanctified by spiritual means. If we do not, our lives will be spent in a raging, discouraging, exhausting battle with the flesh and the devil instead of being more than conquerors through Him that loved us. Thy Saints Shall Bless Thee - Psalm 145. What Should We Do about Abortion? - Luke 10:25-37. My text today is Luke 10:25-37, which contains what is known as the Parable of the Good Samaritan. The topic of my sermon today is, What is the church's responsibility with regard to abortion? A Great Multitude Before God's Throne - Revelation 7:9-17. From Malediction to Benediction - Galatians 6:11-18. The Apostle Paul is fierce in his defense of the gospel. All Christians should be zealous in a like manner. And God forbid that we should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Tried and Reproached for Whom? - 1 Peter 4:12-16. In every generation of Christians, there have always been those claiming to belong to Christ who claimed to be persecuted for Christ when in reality they were bonafide rebels and lawbreakers who cloaked their lawlessness with Christ's name. God's Overruling Grace - Romans 1:1-7. I believe the only way a sinner can be saved is by God's irresistible grace and sovereign will overruling the sinner's corrupted will and rebellious nature. There was certainly no free will involved in Paul being called to salvation through faith in Jesus; that is a matter of record. A Wonderful Home-Going - Psalm 116:15. Many an old Christian who has neglected the things above has all but said, 'Let me stay; let me stay,' when it was his time to go to glory and be forever with the Lord. Contrast that to young Margaret Wilson, drowned in the cold waters of the Solway, who said, 'Let me go; let me go. I am Christ's child!' when offered life at the price of denying the crown rights of Christ. Are God's People the Unchosen Chosen? - Romans 11:33-36. All we know about the unseen work of God in the salvation of souls is what we read about in His revealed Word. The question before us is this: Are God's people chosen and then saved, or are we saved and then chosen? Are we chosen to salvation, or are we the unchosen chosen? Whosoever in the World? - No matter which side of the election debate one is on, we must, in the end, decide the issue from the Scriptures alone. We are not Romanists who base our doctrine on philosophy and tradition. More Than an Escape from Hell - 1 Peter 1:1-9. I don't believe the knowledge and promise that he has been spared eternity in hell will in turn cause a Christian to rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. How long would we rejoice with such a joy if we were only delivered from hell to live a few years on earth and then be given over to death, the grave, and annihilation? The Wrath of God Revealed - Romans 1:18. When God's wrath against sinners is spoken of in the Scriptures, Old Testament and, yes, New Testament, the word wrath means a fierce, fiery tempest of righteous anger and vengeance. A Woman's Place - 1 Timothy 2:11-15. The issues I am going to deal with today are crucial to the spiritual well-being and good order of the church. They Are without Excuse - Romans 1:19-32. There Is No Light in Them - Isaiah 8:20. Many Christians today condemn the lawlessness of the world, but they themselves act as self-appointed arbitrators of the Word of God whenever they choose. They live as sweet moralists, jealous of their own little Christian-flavored world which they have created for their family. Thou Art Inexcusable - Romans 2:1-10. These first and second verses in chapter two of Romans are not meant to be used as an anthem for antinomian error. They are rather a withering condemnation of the error of true legalism, which is the claim of justification by the law.
An Impromptu Exhortation from Paul's Letter to the Philippians - Philippians 2:5. Will we meditate on this? Will we think about what it means? Will it change our actions and our thoughts, our commitments and desires? Will it change how we spend our time? Will it raise up a generation of reformers?
A Sermon on Galatians 2:15-21 - If sinners are justified by faith alone, in Christ alone, apart from works of the law, does this make Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. Christ Crucified and the Christian - 1 Corinthians 2:2. Jesus Christ and Him crucified ought to be often in our thoughts and have a profound and constant impact on our lives. If the Pope Wins America, What Will America Be? - PCC Camp Meeting 2006. Since America's earliest days, she has been a thorn in the pope's side, and he has been her enemy. Those neo-evangelicals who claim that the Roman Catholic Church is a friend and an ally in the so-called culture wars are strengthening the hand of a tyrant who will destroy our blood-bought liberty and our very nation—spiritually, economically, and morally. Kept by the Power of God - 1 Peter 1:5. Verse four speaks of the inheritance kept for the believer. Verse five speaks of the believer kept for the inheritance. Our salvation cannot be a lively hope reserved for us by the power of God if we are not kept by the power of God to receive it. What Should We Do with God's Love? - Romans 8:31-39. As the redeemed of the Lord, we must remember God's love. We must rest in God's love. We must requite God's love, and we must rejoice in God's love. Fierce for the Gospel - Galatians 1:1-5. When it came to the defense of the gospel, the apostles asked no quarter and gave none. Paul was no exception to that rule, as evidenced by his letter to the Galatians. Giving All Diligence - 2 Peter 1. As he faces the prospect of sealing his testimony with his blood, the apostle's concern was for the Word of God and for the sheep which his risen Lord had commanded him to feed. Isn't It a Marvel? - Galatians 1:6-10. Isn't it a marvel today how so many evangelicals accommodate false gospels? The sodomites are at the ramparts. The pro-aborts are killing unborn babies. We have to take care of those things first. No! We have to take care of those things, but we have to first defend the gospel. First! Our Eyes Are upon Thee - 2 Chronicles 20:11-30. We are saved by a God we do not see, by a work we did not see, and we are predestined for a place we cannot see so long as we are in this corruptible flesh. The Lord's Witness to Us - Acts 14:17. God has given a witness of Himself to the heathen, leaving them without excuse. The Lord's people have so much more of a witness. By way of encouragement and exhortation, I want us to consider the witness God has given of Himself to us--His people. Yet Now Be Strong . . . and Work - Oh that the Lord's people today would give heed to what the Word of God proclaims concerning His house, the church of Jesus Christ! Oh that they would begin to rebuild the house of God which lies today almost in ruin. Sincere Love - Ephesians 6:24. Here is an exhortation to more than to love the Lord Jesus Christ but to love Him with a sincere love, a love more pure. And with that exhortation there is a promise of grace. More grace. Grace abounding. To Lay Hold on Eternal Life - 1 Timothy 6:6-21. The martyrs of Jesus who approached the stake, the block, the scaffold with a sure, steady tread and peace in their hearts were not only saved by God's grace through faith, but they had also truly laid hold on eternal life. A Picture and a Promise - Job. During time of spiritual declension and cultural decay, the true, faithful church of God has few friends, feels forlorn, suffers all manner of slander, and sustains many wounds. But God forbid that we would justify our opponents. God forbid that we would remove our integrity from us. Believing in the Promises, Power, and Presence of God - Isaiah 7:1-14; Isaiah 8:9-22. Do you believe in the promises, the power, and the presence of God? Then think like you do; pray like you do; worship like you do; work like you do; and stand like you do. Zion: Then and Now - Psalm 24 Who Is This King of Glory? - Psalm 24:7-10. It is well past time for a godly division from those who deny Christ's glory and His crown rights by their actions even though they say otherwise with their lips. Those whom Christ hath purchased with His own blood have a duty to stand against anyone and anything within His church that is raised up against His crown and glory. |

Important: SermonAudio tags will appear on some of the messages found on this web site. We are not in any way affiliated with SermonAudio! Please read the following explanation.
Those who listen to archived sermons or Heart of the Matter programs on this web site will notice that, currently, when they download some of those sermons and HOM programs that a SermonAudio logo appears. This is because Pilgrims Covenant Church messages were for a number of years posted at SermonAudio. But due to the increasingly deep compromise of SermonAudio in posting sermons from ministers unfaithful either in doctrine or practice or both, and also on account of the many corrupt conferences advertised on SermonAudio, we withdrew from SermonAudio. However, I did not realize when posting our sermons and programs on that site on a page for which we paid that the management was tagging our MP3 files with the logo of SermonAudio. We are working to remove the SermonAudio logo from all of the sermons and programs posted on this site which were previously posted at SermonAudio. However, this takes much time; so we felt it important to post this explanation and also this warning concerning SermonAudio, a web site with many sound ministers, but also many which are corrupting the Lord's blood-bought church. |
