| "Back
a long time ago, there was a secular song which contained the line 'Clowns
on the left; jokers on the right. Here I am stuck in the middle with you.'
That refrain has come back to me the last several days due to phone calls
I have been receiving from the press regarding two individuals. The
Reverend Fred Phelps and his crew are coming to Madison to stage a series
of pickets. I am being asked if WCU will be joining with Fred and his
jayhawkers. The answer is an emphatic 'no!' Fred Phelps and I mix about as
well as oil and water. In recent days, Fred's attorney daughter, Margie,
has let me know that Fred and Co. think that I am a 'coward,' a 'pimp for
the faggots,' and a false Christian because I have taken issue with Fred's
unbiblical approach to the sin of homosexuality, including his promiscuous
use of unbiblical pejoratives and his reprehensible habit of harassing
people while they are burying a homosexual loved one. Fred acts more like
a clown than a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
"The other individual prompting phone calls to me
from the press is Wisconsin's openly homosexual state legislator Mark
Pocan (D-Madison). It seems that Representative Pocan has asked the
Capitol Police to investigate me due to a comment that I made in a WCU
newsletter. The comment is as follows: 'Please pray that Representative
Mark Pocan would repent or that God would remove him from the scene.'
"What a joke! A state representative wants a
pastor to be investigated for asking Christians to pray that a morally
corrupt state official will repent or God will remove him from the
political scene! Representative Pocan knows that he is in no danger from
me, although his conscience may be warning him that he is in big trouble
with God due to the sexual perversion in which he engages and due to the
fact that he is using his high office to protect and advance such
perversion. I will continue to pray that Mark Pocan will repent and follow
Christ or that God will judge him and remove his influence from our state
government.
"Clowns on the left; jokers on the right. Here I
am stuck in the middle with a lot of other people who see nothing funny
about either Phelps or Pocan."
