Several
weeks ago, Wisconsin Christians United began gathering names on a pastors
statement of support for Roy Moore, the Chief Justice of the Alabama State
Supreme Court. Judge Moore has come under an unrelenting, withering attack
for his concurring opinion in a decision to deny a lesbian the custody of
her children from a former marriage. The children remain in the custody of
their father. Originally, we put a deadline of March 15 for
signatures to be returned. We have decided to extend that deadline until
April 3. The second week of April, the statement with attached
signatures will be given to Judge Moore, the rest of his colleagues on the
Alabama Supreme Court, and also to appropriate Christian and secular
media. Thus far, we have signatures from pastors in forty
states as well as American pastors in six foreign countries and one
signature from an Army chaplain. How encouraging it is to see
true men of God rise up, unashamed of God's holy truth, at such a critical
time! Please consider passing the letter below on to others, along with
the statement of support for Judge Roy Moore. Thank you, and may the Lord
bless all those who have joined in this important effort
Pastor Ralph Ovadal
Ever since the Alabama State Supreme Court ruled against a lesbian
in a child custody case, the apologists for New Sodom have been shrilly
denouncing the Court, especially Chief Justice Roy Moore who wrote a
succinctly worded concurring decision steeped in historic terminology
rooted in America's founding documents and common law history. The
spokesmen for a number of high-power homosexual lobbying groups have
denounced Judge Moore in the strongest language and are calling for his
removal from the bench. At the same time, several pro-homosexual religious
groups, such as Equal Partners in Faith, are likewise attacking Moore in
the most vitriolic language imaginable and calling for his removal.
In response to this attack upon a godly and courageous judge,
Wisconsin Christians United is giving Christian pastors all across America
an opportunity to stand with Judge Moore by signing a statement of support
for him and returning it to WCU by April 3. Shortly after that, a number
of Alabama pastors will hold a press conference in front of the Alabama
Supreme Court building in Montgomery to give the statement to the media
and talk about Judge Moore's opinion. They will then present the statement
along with its signatures to the Chief Justice or someone from his office.
The statement, which follows below, has only been in circulation one day
and already bears the signatures of pastors from eleven states.

In Support of Judge Roy Moore
As a pastor
of the Church of Jesus Christ, I support Judge Roy Moore and his recent
written comments on law, the custody of children, and homosexual parents (D.H.
vs. H.H. [Jefferson Circuit Court, DR-99-1301; Court of Civil Appeals,
2991129]). I commend Judge Moore's opinion which so accurately
reflects the intent of America's founders that this nation's system of
civil government and jurisprudence must be predicated upon "the Laws
of Nature and of Nature's God" as is obvious by America's charter,
the Declaration of Independence. America's founders defined those laws as
"God's dictated or natural law" and "God's revealed law as
found in Holy Scripture." They agreed with the great English jurist
William Blackstone who stated that "no human laws should be suffered
to contradict these."
I
also commend Judge Moore for using clear, concise, and meaningful language
which is rooted not only in the Bible but also in America's common law
heritage which in turn is based on God's eternal precepts.
It
is my prayer as a pastor and Christian that persons committing homosexual
acts will repent, believe the gospel, and call upon the name of the Lord
for salvation. It is also my prayer that God will raise up many more
judges such as Roy Moore--men who are willing to judge righteous judgment
(John 7:24) in all matters brought before them. It is the civil
government's holy duty to punish evil and reward good (Romans 13:3-4).
Homosexual acts are an evil which pervert God's natural creation order,
violate his moral law, destroy many lives, and bring God's judgment on our
land. I am thankful that Judge Roy Moore has used law lawfully (1 Timothy
1:8-11), and in so doing, has taken a step toward returning our nation's
system of jurisprudence back to righteousness. Judge Roy Moore should be
commended and supported by all Americans who claim the name of Christ.

PASTOR OVADAL'S LETTER ENCOURAGING
CHRISTIANS TO RALLY
BEHIND JUDGE ROY MOORE
Dear Christian,
A great furor has erupted as a result of a recent decision rendered
by the Alabama State Supreme Court, which on February 15, handed down a
unanimous decision against a lesbian who was seeking custody of her
children from her former husband. America's New Sodom and their allies are
furious over the decision, and the main object of their wrath is the
Court's Chief Justice Roy Moore. In a concurring opinion on the case,
Moore succinctly set forth the reason for his decision. Here are excerpts
from Moore's opinion:
"I write specially to state that
the homosexual conduct of a parent - - conduct involving a sexual
relationship between two persons of the same gender - - creates a strong
presumption of unfitness that alone is sufficient justification for
denying that parent custody of his or her own children or prohibiting
the adoption of the children of others. In this case there is undisputed
evidence that the mother of the minor children not only dated another
woman, but lived with that woman, shared a bed with her, and had an
intimate physical and sexual relationship with her. . . . But Alabama
expressly does not recognize same sex marriages or domestic
partnerships. . . . Homosexual conduct is, and has been, considered
abhorrent, immoral, detestable, a crime against nature, and a violation
of the laws of nature and of nature's God upon which this Nation and our
laws are predicated. Such conduct violates both the criminal and civil
laws of this State and is destructive to a basic building block of
society--the family. The law of Alabama is not only clear in its
condemning such conduct, but the courts of this State have consistently
held that exposing a child to such behavior has a destructive and
seriously detrimental effect on the children. It is an inherent evil
against which children must be protected."
The Sunday after Chief Justice Moore's opinion, I told my congregation
that church bells all across America should be ringing in celebration that
God has raised up a righteous judge who is willing and able to use law
"lawfully" (I Timothy 1:8-11). This ruling should be celebrated
by thankful Christians all across America. It should likewise encourage
men and women of principle everywhere that the battle for God-defined
liberty and God-ordained law is not lost.
The truth is, I have not seen much open, unabashed support of Judge
Roy Moore and his implicitly lawful stand. On the other hand, New Sodom
has unleashed a torrent of vitriol against Judge Moore. They have
proclaimed his opinion to be "unconstitutional" and are calling
for his removal from the bench. This is amazing given that the judge's
very words are rooted in our nation's founding documents as well as the
common law foundation upon which those documents rest.
At a recent press conference, Lorri L. Jean, the executive director
of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, branded Judge Moore's stand
for true law with such words as "bigotry," "hatred,"
"unrepentant ignorance," "religious intolerance," and
"extremism."
Predictably, the wolves in sheep's clothing have also sent up a
howl of protest over Judge Moore's courageous, historic stand for
God-ordained law and God-defined liberty. A group called Equal Partners in
Faith, "a national network of religious leaders," is calling for
Moore to resign or be removed from the bench. In a press release, EPF
stated, "As people of faith, we believe the rhetoric of Justice Moore
is reprehensible and totally unacceptable from a professional
jurist." Chris Purdom, a member of the EPF Advisory Board and a
church elder writes, ". . . I am appalled that, in this day and age,
a Supreme Court Justice would base legal decisions on such divisive
religious teachings . . ." A coalition of "religious
groups" led by clergy has written a statement of protest against Roy
Moore's opinion. This document is being circulated nationwide via e-mail
and fax for signatures.
This is a very historic moment in our nation's history, and I
believe that it is crucial and right that God's true shepherds raise a
voice of support for a righteous judge who is under severe attack because
he has judged righteous judgment (John 7:24). Over the past several years,
I have interviewed Judge Roy Moore on my radio program "The Heart of
the Matter." This also gave me the opportunity to talk to him off the
air. I found him to be a fine Christian brother, who loves the Lord with
all his heart, soul, mind, and strength and his neighbor as himself. Other
Christians to whom I have spoken who know Judge Moore well concur with
that assessment. In short, this is a court decision and a man worthy of
the support of the Body of Christ.
Along with this letter, I have enclosed a statement of support for
Judge Roy Moore. It is short and to the point. I am asking that pastors
across this land sign this statement and fax, e-mail, or mail it back to
me. I intend to find some Alabama pastors to hold a press conference in
the Alabama state capitol to present copies of the statement to the press
and the Alabama State Supreme Court. The purpose for the press conference
will be to get the word out to the public that the true pastors of the
Church of Jesus Christ do support Judge Roy Moore and the eternal,
immutable law upon which his ruling is based.
Having said that, I must ask that only those men who teach that
"except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God"
and who hold to Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, and Sola Gratia
sign this statement. While I deeply appreciate every American who holds to
a biblical worldview regarding law and government, since I will be
representing these documents as having been signed by pastors, I must
strictly hold to the guideline just set forth.
I would appreciate it if those who receive this letter and are not
pastors would bring it to their pastors' attention as soon as possible.
Also, please circulate this letter and statement to others by fax, e-mail,
or letter. Signed statements must be returned to me by April
3.
May God's people seize this moment and act decisively in defense of
His eternal precepts. May the Lord bless our efforts on behalf of
His Holy Word and the righteous judge He has raised up.
Sincerely,
Pastor Ralph Ovadal
Director
