"What we're going to see here is how committed the state of Wisconsin is . . . to protecting this sexually perverse elite who want to have this little beach-front brothel," said Ralph Ovadal, director of Wisconsin Christians United.

WCU-Funded Lawsuit

"It is joy to the just to do judgment:
but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity."
Proverbs 21:15

On the morning of the day of my trial, June 5, WCU held a press conference to unveil a WCU-funded lawsuit against the Mazo nude beach. The suit is being brought by Harvey and Ruth Bender. The Benders, who are being represented by Milwaukee area attorney Jim Donohoo, own a canoe rental business directly across from the nude beach. Over the past several years, their business has been greatly hurt economically by the nude beach for obvious reasons; and the value of their property has fallen as well. The beach has also been a nightmare for them in many other ways with both voyeurists and nudists trespassing all over their property. On June 5, Attorney Donohoo served notice on the DNR that the Benders intend to seek both an injunction to close the beach and $100,000 in damages. The state now has 120 days from June 5 to put an end to the nudity at Mazo, or the Benders' suit will go forward.

Pray for the safety of the Benders and for wisdom for Attorney Donohoo. Also pray that state officials will now come to their senses and put an end to the madness at Mazo. If they will not, pray that the Benders' suit will be successful. Back to top.

Mazo Beach Revisited

"Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?"
Psalm 94:16

On Memorial Day, May 29, WCU returned to Mazo beach. At 7:30 A.M., an advance team parked a flatbed pickup truck equipped with a pulpit in the beach's parking lot beside a gate across the road which leads to the beach. In a pathetic, disingenuous effort to quell the uproar against the nudity on the beach, the DNR has now placed a locked gate across the road. Only persons with disabilities are allowed to drive the one mile to that open-air bathhouse; everyone else must walk or bike down the road. Of course, the only effect this has had is to give the nudists a little more exercise. A people driven by lust are not easily discouraged by a short walk.

By 8:30 A.M., approximately sixty Christians were on the scene to lay siege to the beach. For almost eight hours, every person coming to that tax-funded peep show, including law enforcement personnel, was forced to drive past signs with very pointed Biblical messages, run a gamut of Christians armed with Bibles and salvation tracts, and listen to eternal truth being preached over a P.A. system. Many of the nudists were escorted quite some distance down the road to the beach by sincere Christians zealous to share the gospel and reprove the unfruitful works of darkness.

When a couple with a small boy arrived and headed for the beach, Christians on the scene begged police and DNR officers to intervene and protect the child. The officers replied with a stony silence and, in the case of several DNR wardens, smirks.

A major attitude adjustment occurred among the officers when I announced from the pulpit over the P.A. system, "That's it; form up behind the flags. We are marching down to the beach. When we get there, we will do as the Lord leads." Several DNR vehicles full of wardens immediately headed down the road to the beach while other wardens and police officers scrambled for radios to call for back up.

We then formed up and headed down the one mile-road to the beach singing hymns all the way with a DNR truck full of wardens and video cameras in front and a Dane County Sheriff's squad car bringing up the rear. At the end of each hymn, our Christian company would stop for prayer and a short exhortation, then proceed.

Upon arriving at the beach, we moved as close as possible, keeping a screen of trees between us and the beach to ensure no nudity would be viewed. By now, there was a screen of police officers between the beach and us as well! At that point, I asked the head DNR official on the scene to enforce the law against public nudity so that the sixty or so persons with WCU could access the beach. He refused, thus denying equal access to a whole group of tax-paying persons on behalf of a group of lawbreakers. The exchange was video taped and has been sent to a Christian legal foundation. Pray that a lawsuit against the beach can be built upon that incident.

While in position within earshot of the beach, we Christians sang hymns and engaged in a truly powerful, Spirit-filled time of Scripture reading and prayer, including imprecation. All in all, the day was a glorious one in which many hearts were revealed and others were touched by the convicting truth of God's Word. It was also a nightmare for the DNR who had no idea what WCU was up to and, in fact, called in wardens from their day off to monitor the event. In short, the day provided a little more incentive for our state officials to do the right thing with regard to the Mazo nude beach. It certainly was one more straw piled on the back of a very stubborn DNR camel. Sooner or later, the beast's back will break if we continue to pray, raise our voices, and act decisively. Now that the battle is joined, the sexual libertines must be stopped and the beachhead they have carved out at Mazo eliminated. If they should win, there is nothing they will not attempt in the pursuit of perversion. The dam will burst and a flood of sexual anarchy, even violence ala Central Park, will sweep over our state in the coming years. We must not lose this one! Back to top.

The Trial . . . Finally.

"He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just,
even they both are abomination to the LORD."
Proverbs 17:15

On Monday afternoon, June 5, over one-hundred Christians crowded into a small courtroom to witness my trial on a disorderly conduct charge which resulted from a WCU ministry event which took place on the driveway to Mazo beach last August 28. What a blessing to have the support of so many far-sighted, discerning individuals who grasp the importance of the Mazo beach battle! For this trial, the Dane County District Attorney's office employed the use of one of their most high-powered D.A.s, Brian Brophy, who since has become the head D.A.

Throughout the proceedings, Judge Steven Ebert repeatedly refused to allow me to pursue lines of questioning which made the DNR look bad. At the same time, much truth did come out; and the prosecution, who has the burden of proof, clearly did not prove his case. In an extraordinary move for such a trial, Judge Ebert decided to issue a written decision on the case. Pray for God's will to be done. No matter what happens, the cause of righteousness will be served. If the judge rules that I am guilty, he as well as the D.A. and the DNR will be exposed for the hypocrites that they are for protecting perverts while persecuting a pastor for defending children and the law. If the judge rules not guilty, the D.A. and the DNR will look like fools for falsely charging a pastor with disorderly conduct for simply engaging in much needed Christian ministry. Back to top.

Pridefest 2000

". . . and how shall they hear without a preacher?"
Romans 10:14

On July 9-10, WCU spent over eleven hours in front of the gates of the Milwaukee sodomite festival "Pridefest" preaching, witnessing, passing out tracts, and holding signs with Biblical messages. On Friday night, WCU split into three teams in order to also take a stand along the "Gay Pride Parade" route. I stationed one team with me just past the beginning of the parade; and after it passed, then re-deployed the team at the end of the parade. A Milwaukee pastor took a second team to the middle of the parade route, and one team stayed in front of the gates of the carnival.

The net result was that every person in the parade, including a large number of young people and half a dozen pro-sodomite pastors, heard a strong gospel message and the unfruitful works of darkness were strongly rebuked. Needless to say, the powers of darkness did not like such a piercing light to be shown on the evil deeds of the sodomites; and it was not long before the heirs of Sodom were showing the strain of being subjected to the preaching of God's Word. At the same time, a number of police also appeared to be influenced by the same spirit. While the parade passed the first WCU team without serious incident, WCU missionary Mike Foht was arrested at the middle point of the parade for sharing the gospel with a group of sodomites and specifically with a little girl under the care of a long-haired man in a dress. After a police sergeant told him, "No, you are not going to share the gospel," Mike obeyed God, not man, and was first subjected to pain compliance holds for no reason, then cuffed and carted off to jail.

Shortly after that, police officers rushed my team, manhandled us, and attempted to take away our video camera. One Christian who was video taping the scene was subject to a pain hold by an officer who unsuccessfully attempted to steal his video camera. Another Christian was purposely hit in the face by a police video camera. Later, another Christian was arrested for no reason; and a third Christian simply video taping the scene was roughly thrown to the ground, had a police man's knee dropped into his back, was arrested, and had his video camera taken from him. The police are now refusing to return the camera and video tape which contains the evidence of their own wrongdoing. Several times Friday evening, the few good police officers present at Pridefest confided to me that the Christians under my leadership should be careful because "The boss is leaning on us heavy." Several even apologized for the actions of their rogue brethren.

WCU was back at the sodomite carnival Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. The important thing is that God's people took a stand, hearts were revealed, the gospel was defended, and at least one sodomite was brought to salvation! Our continual presence at Pridefest has had a major impact in another way as well. This year, Congresslesbian Tammy Baldwin was nowhere to be seen Friday or Saturday; and neither was our state's only open sodomite legislator, Mark Pocan. Also, the Milwaukee Police Band was only able to field fourteen officers to march in the parade as opposed to three times that many last year! "For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." Back to top.

Meanwhile, WCU Trench Warfare Continues

"Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets."
Proverbs 1:20

WCU continues to conduct literature drops in towns around Wisconsin. In the course of time, readers of this alert may have noticed the names of towns appear more than once on the list of towns which have been lit dropped in a given month. The reason for this is that WCU distributes a number of different brochures door-to-door, but normally only one particular piece of literature at a time. Unless otherwise noted, all towns listed were dropped with one of the following brochures: "Homosexuality: The Truth," "A Little Discrimination Can Be A Good Thing," "Do Homosexual Spend Eternity in Heaven or Hell?," "Is Someone You Know A Bugger?," and "Rape, Murder, and Homosexuality."

These brochures and other WCU literature is available for free to those who will distribute it in their town and/or their church. Recently, we supplied literature which was distributed in Canada, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. Back to top.
