"Be strong and
courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria,
nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than
with him:
with him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us,
and to fight our battles.
And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of
Judah."
2 Chronicles 32:7-8
Dear Friends,
Because there are so many Action Highlights this month, I will keep
this cover letter short. As you read those highlights, remember that they
are indeed simply highlights. During the past two months, WCU has been
very active in large things and small. I am grateful for the help of my
two grown daughters who labor full-time for WCU and the other ministries
which I head up. I am also blessed by the commitment of WCU missionary
Mike Foht and several other Christians who are on the street, week in and
week out, spreading truth which is desperately needed to turn hearts and
minds away from New Sodom's mesmerizing lies. Lastly, I praise God for a
number of hard-working individuals who are lit dropping WCU literature in
their own areas and those sacrificial minutemen who are always ready to
run to the battle when called. The war in which we are engaged is one of
truth vs. lies. It is a struggle of light against darkness. I wish more
people had the vision and discernment to understand that and the work
ethic to simply go out and spread truth, trusting that God will bless and
work through such efforts.
There is one very important thing which I would like to ask all of you
to do as soon as possible. Sodomite Representative Mark Pocan (D-Madison)
is once again breathing threats against our families and God's law. He has
announced that Wisconsin is "pro-gay," and thus he is going to
introduce some of the legislation about which he boasted last term but
backed down on after a WCU-orchestrated call-in/write-in campaign to state
legislators. At this time, I am not positive which bills he will
introduce. He has promised that at the minimum he is going to push a bill
which would grant health benefits to the sodomite sexual partners of state
workers. There is some indication that Pocan's legislation would force not
only state but also county and city governments, as well as school
districts, to also grant such financial rewards to sexually perverted
people. It is also very possible that Mr. P. will introduce a bill that
would codify into state law the recognition of "domestic
partners" and perhaps even go so far as establishing a state statute
creating civil unions for sodomites. Such legislation would essentially
put sodomite liaisons on the same legal standing as God-ordained marriages
between men and women. Representative Pocan's bills could be introduced at
any time; so it is critical to once again act quickly and decisively.
Enclosed in this mailing is a slip of paper explaining the situation
and what to do. Please make copies of it to pass on to friends and fellow
church members. Perhaps it could be put in your church's bulletin. We also
have an e-mail message which can be filled in and forwarded to your state
assemblyman and senator. It is vital that everyone get involved in this
effort and get as many other people as possible involved. Please pray that
Representative Mark Pocan would repent or that God would remove him from
the scene. For the latest information on Mark Pocan's legislation or any
other legislation, I suggest that you call Marv Munyon at the Family
Research Forum in Madison at (608)256-3228. Marv is now an official
lobbyist. We should all be very thankful for and supportive of Marv's
tireless labor as he not only acts as a Paul Revere to warn of ungodly,
unconstitutional legislation but also lobbies against evil and for good.
On another political note, the City of Milwaukee Common Council is
going to be considering extending medical, dental, and funeral benefits
for "same-sex partners" of city workers. It is very important
that Christians in Milwaukee respond to this initiative, which was beaten
back in 1997, thanks to the efforts of Christian radio hosts and a huge
grassroots campaign by WCU in which we not only supplied an informational
flyer with appropriate contact points on it to churches but also lit
dropped almost 30,000 Milwaukee homes with it. I have a new flyer printed
for those who would be willing to lit drop homes. Quite frankly, the s.s.
benefit proposal cannot be beaten back by the Christian community alone;
city councilmen must receive heat from other concerned citizens as well.
Call me if you would like flyers for your church or if you would like to
lit drop some neighborhoods.
Thanks to all of you who have been praying for Wisconsin Christians
United. This is a very busy ministry; and, of course, those of us who head
things up are also very busy in other ministries; so we appreciate those
prayers! Thanks as well to those of you who have so faithfully given to
keep WCU effective. With the high volume of literature that we are
distributing and with all the fights in which we are involved, including
funding the lawsuit against Mazo beach, our funds are stretched thin right
now; and that is putting it mildly. But we know that if this ministry is
of God and meant to continue, He will provide. It is our privilege to
serve our King with you at this crucial hour.
Serving the Lamb of God
And the Lion of Judah,
Pastor Ralph Ovadal, Director

A Christian brother in the Madison area has been organizing small weekly
lit drops in that city and the surrounding area for years using WCU
brochures. This man is an unsung hero who prefers to remain behind the
scenes; but he has brought, and continues to bring, great light to a dark
city. We have a similar worker in the Milwaukee area.
• Twenty individuals have
committed to lit dropping at least one hundred each of six WCU brochures
to homes in their area.
• We also have two Christian men
who are in full-time ministry, primarily pro-life, who are also dropping
WCU literature. One brother drops a minimum of 1,000 homes with WCU flyers
in the Eau Claire/Wausau area every month; the other does the same in the
cities of Appleton and Oshkosh. In return, WCU supports each missionary
with a monetary gift each month. This way, we get out a lot of lit without
travel expense, and we are able to help support two very effective,
dedicated missionaries. Thank the Lord for those who keep WCU funded so
that we can print the large amount of literature we use.

January 11-12
Dary Byczek "Hate Crime Trial"
On January 12, after a two-day trial, Dary Byczek was found innocent of
a hate crime charge but guilty of disorderly conduct. The defeat of the
hate crime charge was a great victory for the cause of righteousness and a
devastating, costly defeat for New Sodom! WCU invested much time, money,
and effort publicizing and defining the chilling saga of Dary Byczek. (See
past newsletters and the enclosed "Firebell" article.) The first
day of Dary's trial, January 11, Christians with WCU lit dropped the
entire town of Monroe with an open letter from Pastor Ralph Ovadal which
revealed the truth about the charges against Dary and also gave a
biblical/constitutional view of "hate crime" laws, including how
dangerous such laws are. The flyer also took the D.A. to task for pressing
Green County's first hate crime trial ever. Several of the jury members
ended up reading the flyer when they went home for the night after the
first day of the two-day trial! WCU also held a rally below the courthouse
window of the courtroom where the trial took place and staged an
informational picket.
In a strange twist, Pastor Ovadal's wife Linda was in the jury pool.
She was rejected after explaining to the judge and all the other
perspective jurors that hate crime laws are wrong because God has
commanded that men are to be treated equally before the bar of justice.
The judge told Linda that she was excused after asking her whom she would
obey if his instruction contradicted God's law. Linda, of course, told him
she would obey God.
Mr Byczek's lesbian accusers were supported throughout the trial by the
Monroe Council of Churches! They had other unsavory supporters as well.
During the trial, Pastor Ovadal found a folder under a chair in the
courtroom. It contained homosexual pornography and literature from the
North American Man Boy Love Association. In addition, it contained letters
and personal items which identified its owner as a member of the UW of
Wisconsin faculty and also implicated another UW professor and a member of
the Madison school board! After examining it, Pastor Ovadal turned the
file over to the Green County Sheriff's Department.
The days proceeding Dary Byczek's trial and those after it brought many
opportunities for Pastor Ovadal to speak through the state and national
media about hate crime laws and many surrounding issues. During several
secular radio talk programs, he was able to share the gospel of Jesus
Christ in depth, including with the father of a sodomite man.
January 16
Lit drop in Reedsburg.
January 19
WCU lit distributed at a homosexual youth event in Omaha,
Nebraska.
January 21-22
Pastor Ovadal spoke several times in San Diego, California, home
of San Diego Christians United.
January 23
Lit drop in Evansville and Brooklyn.
January 25-26
Pastor Ovadal did a flurry of newspaper, radio, and television
interviews after the DNR announced that a permit will be required before
WCU can "protest" on the Mazo beach parking lot and the one-mile
long gravel walk to the beach. Pastor Ovadal made it clear, through both
the media and an open letter to DNR Secretary George Meyer, that WCU will
take action in federal court should the unconstitutional scheme actually
be put in place. As a result of the controversy, an employee of the
Wisconsin Department of Correction, using the state's e-mail system,
attacked WCU. After her superiors were alerted, she ended up being forced
to apologize; and Pastor Ovadal shared the gospel with her through the
exchange. WCU has received word that the DNR is now having serious second
thoughts about the permit system.
January 28
Christian Truth Activists handed out hundreds of WCU brochures during a
two-day blitz in Regina, Saskatchewan.
January 30
• Lit drop in Dodgeville.
• The liberal Monroe Council of
Churches published a column in the Monroe Times condemning Pastor Ralph
Ovadal, Pilgrims Covenant Church, and Wisconsin Christians United. Pastor
Ovadal responded with a column of his own (see enclosed).
February 6
WCU Blitzkrieg. Hundreds of homes in Sparta, Tomah, New Lisbon,
and Mauston were lit dropped. This ministry came on the heels of similar
action last November, with different literature, of course. In Mauston, a
police sergeant threatened to sweep WCU off of the streets during a
prophetic picket but retreated when confronted by the Constitution. A
local newspaper reporter offered to testify in court on behalf of WCU if
the officer carried through on arrest threats.
February 10
• Pastor Ovadal sent a letter to
new governor Scott McCallum, urging him to end the nudity at Mazo beach.
Pastor Ovadal did several interviews on Christian radio concerning the
letter.
February 13
• The WCU-funded nuisance
lawsuit against Mazo beach was officially filed on behalf of Harvey and
Ruth Bender. Although the DNR had far more than the 120 days required to
respond after a notice of the intent to sue was filed last summer, they
did nothing. Now the suit will move to trial, once depositions are
finished. Pastor Ovadal did a number of interviews with secular and
Christian press regarding the nude beach and the lawsuit.
• Pastor Ralph Ovadal had a very
good personal meeting with new DNR Secretary Darrell Bazzell who appeared
to be a very conscientious and compassionate man. As Pastor Ovadal has
said, time will prove his courage.
February 14
• WCU launched another
call-in/write-in/e-mail campaign against the nudity at Mazo beach. In
addition to utilizing the WCU mailing list and Minuteman e-mail network,
WCU sent a mailing to 1,200 homes in the Mazo beach area. People were
urged to contact Secretary Bazzell and Governor McCallum.
• WCU literature was delivered to
the offices of all state assemblymen and senators.
February 19
• Lit drop in Sauk City to
expose a Gay Straight Alliance Club in the school system there.
Congresslesbian Tammy Baldwin was also picketed at a speaking engagement
in Sauk City. The pastor of the Concordia United Methodist Church wrote a
vitriolic letter to WCU in response to the drop.
• Pastor Ovadal was contacted by
the Milwaukee Police Department and the media at the behest of the
sodomite newspaper In Step. The management of In Step claimed that Pastor
Ovadal had gained access to a list of subscribers of In Step and that WCU
had been harassing them. In Step was forced to back off after the
Milwaukee PD found that Pastor and WCU were doing no such thing.

Baldwin and her supporters in a
church service in Mineral Point.
"For the word of God is quick and
powerful and sharper than any
two edged sword, piercing . . ." |
February 20
WCU accompanied Congresslesbian Tammy Baldwin on her speaking tour to
Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Darlington, and Monroe. With the exception of
Darlington, where a shaken Tammy apparently skipped lunch and hustled into
the county courthouse meeting site early, she was confronted by signs with
prophetic messages and strong gospel preaching at each stop. Persons
attending the meetings were given a flyer which documented Tammy's
ungodly, unconstitutional political positions and which explained why she
must repent and be born again or spend eternity in hell. In Mineral Point,
Baldwin's meeting took place in an old senior center with Tammy and her
listeners sitting at a long table right by the door. For the first
half-hour of the meeting, the WCU Christians outside sang hymns and
prayed. Pastor Ovadal also preached very loudly for about twenty minutes.
All of this took place just feet from the door and was clearly and easily
heard by everyone inside.
February 22-23
Prophetic ministry in front of a nude bar in Juneau, Wisconsin.
Cocktails and Dreams had gone to great expense to bring in special
"performer" Shelly Jones, a Playboy covergirl. Each of the two
nights, an average of forty WCU Christians were in front of the bar to
hold signs with biblical messages, evangelize, reprove, sing, pray, and
preach. Business was drastically affected. A number of cars full of men
circled the block and never parked. The gospel was shared with many men
and women going into the bar as well as with many young people who were
wandering around on the streets. One older man asked how to be saved and
took a Bible home with him! One of the dancers was confronted for her part
in destroying young men's morals. After she came under conviction, the
gospel was also shared with her.

For those who won't stop to talk,

of "Cocktail and Dreams."
"And as ye go, preach, saying,
The kingdom of heaven is at hand." |
The first night, the Juneau police acted like Gestapo, threatening
arrests if the Christians continued to minister. One officer sneeringly
told Pastor Ovadal, "You've never seen me mad." After butting up
against God's Word, the Constitution, and a number of court cases, the
police did a 180; and there were no further problems. On February 23, WCU
lit dropped Juneau with a flyer which challenged the men in town to
protect their wives, daughters, mothers, and sisters by passing an
ordinance to outlaw nude dancing. The flyer gave proof that such
ordinances have been held to be constitutional; and it tendered an offer
from the American Family Association to defend all court challenges to
such an ordinance, should Juneau City Council pass it.
February 27
Lit drop in Viroqua and Westby. After the drop, a Westby police
officer who claimed to be a Christian attacked WCU by e-mail. Pastor
Ovadal responded to his remarks and was able to share much truth.
Special Notices
• Weekly sermon tapes from
Pastor Ovadal are available by sending $6 per month to WCU.
• If the DNR does not announce an
end to the nudity at Mazo beach by April 1, WCU will begin forming witness
teams to be on the beach parking lot and trail every week, all summer.
Please pray about committing some days to this effort.
• Be sure to listen to "The
Heart of the Matter" at 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday on WWCR
shortwave radio at 3.215 MHz or anytime Monday through Saturday at www.TheHeartoftheMatterOnline.com.
Action Alert
Openly homosexual state Representative Mark Pocan is poised to
introduce several pieces of pro-homosexual legislation. Pocan says that he
has taken a poll and claims that Wisconsin is pro-homosexual. "`I
think this kind of data will help us, Pocan said. `If the people lead,
eventually the leaders will follow'" (Wisconsin State Journal,
February 23, 2001). Pocan says that he plans on introducing bills which
would provide insurance benefits for the "partners" of sodomite
state employees and also introducing legislation to establish legal
recognition of "same-sex unions." Similar legislation was
crushed in its infancy last year by an outpouring of concern by
Christians. We must once again act decisively before the bills are
introduced and then respond again if they are introduced. Contact your
state representative and senator as well as State Assembly Majority Leader
Scott Jensen. Call, write, e-mail; or better yet, do all three. Tell them
you expect that they will work and vote against any and all pro-homosexual
legislation. Tell them a pro-homosexual vote by them will mean no vote for
them by you in the next election!
