"Heart of the Matter" Program Notice from Pastor Ralph Ovadal
January
8, 2004
"And he
said unto them, Go ye into all the world,
and preach the gospel to every creature."
Mark 16:15
Dear Friends,
Another year has dawned. The church which I pastor, Pilgrims
Covenant, rang out the old year by preaching, holding gospel banners, and
handing out salvation tracts New Year's Eve on the square in Monroe. We
have many battles ahead of us in 2004; but by far, the most important duty
that we have is to build up the Church of Jesus Christ and publicly share
the gospel. Unless we do that, everything else will be in vain. Both my
church and WCU regularly engage in open-air, gospel witnessing. I do
believe that it is also critical to contend with the sodomite movement as
the heart of that movement is a concerted assault upon the text and the
authority of the Word of God.
At the end of this letter, you will find a synopsis of what could
have been a much longer report on recent WCU ministry. Behind the
statistics are untold stories of thousands upon thousands of people who
received not only the truth about homosexuality but also the gospel of
Jesus Christ. For our lit drops and school outreaches, we use the
brochures Homosexuality:
The Truth and What
the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality. Both contain the
gospel. For our pickets, we use large banners which read,
"Homosexuality is sin." With those banners, we also hold signs
which read, "Christ can set you free," and, "Repent ye, and
believe the gospel. Mark 1:15." All of the pickets listed dealt with
homosexuality and used the aforementioned signs except the pickets in Sauk
City and Waunakee which were pro-life pickets. Of course, we also use
large, gospel banners at our events.
The two months covered in the summary were interesting ones indeed.
We were cheered by many and jeered by some. We were threatened with arrest
but not arrested. We preached, handed out tracts, and did one-on-one
evangelism.
During a picket in Galena, Illinois, I was hit in the leg by an
angry young man wielding a big stick—anyway, when one is on the receiving
end, a 5-foot-long stick, 2-1/2 inches in diameter, seems rather big.
Although a newspaper reporter was on the scene and witnessed the assault,
his newspaper did not report it. The police gave my attacker a disorderly
conduct charge rather than arresting him for battery. I guess that they
must have decided that using a club on a homophobic, Christian pastor
rates right up there with kicking a mongrel dog. This is the same town
where the police had previously watched a lesbian spray paint one of our
banners and then refused to press charges. The local Galena people in
general were extremely receptive to our message and encouraged by our
witness. It seems that the sodomites have been very heavy-handed in that
town, and many citizens are glad to see someone standing up for truth.
We will be going back to Galena. We do not believe in shrinking
back when the wicked rage against God's Word and His people. That is also
why we have arranged a civil lawsuit against Action Wisconsin (AW), our
state's largest political "gay" advocacy organization. On
December 8, AW issued a press release containing blatant lies about WCU's
recent International Conference on Homo-Fascism. Their dreams of smearing
WCU's reputation through the press were quickly crushed due to our rapid
reaction. As soon as we caught word from the media of AW's release, we
launched a counteroffensive
of press releases and e-mails to state legislators and the media.
Consequently, AW did not garner one media report with their libelous press
release; and they lost a considerable amount of political capital in the
process.
However, that AW press release, which claims that Pastor Grant
Storms, one of our conference speakers, was encouraging the murder of
"gay people," has shown up on web sites for the whole world to
see. WCU has arranged for an attorney to represent Pastor Storms in a
civil suit against Action Wisconsin. Pray for that lawsuit and Pastor
Storms. It is no fun for a pastor to be represented to the world as a
cold-blooded murderer! By the grace of God, this lawsuit will reverberate
across America and serve as a warning to those who would so callously
attempt to demonize and destroy Christians who stand for truth against New
Sodom.
WCU is also on the offensive on many other fronts. For instance,
our Operation Saturation will be launched the last week in January. We
will be sending a special mailing to 80,000 rural Wisconsin homes. These
are homes that we cannot lit drop. The mailing will contain the two WCU
brochures spoken of earlier and also a flyer alerting citizens to the
danger, deception, and destruction posed by a domestic partnership bill
which will be introduced in our state legislature sometime after January
14. The alert will contain contact points for state legislators. We were
going to launch Operation Saturation in October, but God's timing is
always better than ours!
Be sure to contact your state senator and state representative to
tell them that you expect them to vote against this latest D.P. bill,
which is really a Trojan horse attempt to legalize "same-sex
marriage." You have crushed such legislation twice in the last few
years and, with the Lord's help, can do so again, thus dealing another
setback to the sodomite agenda. But all of you must make those phone calls
and send those messages letting your senators and representatives know
that you will not vote for them if they vote for the D.P. bill, which, as
I write, does not yet have a bill number. Our legislators need to
understand that we do not appreciate attempts to bless fornication--and
fornication with strange flesh--with legal recognition and tax-funded
benefits. WCU will also be sending some special information to state
legislators to help them make the right decision.
With regard to another pressing legislative issue, I hope that you
will contact Governor Jim Doyle and your legislators and urge them to make
AB 574 law. This bill would give law enforcement another tool to deal with
public nudity on state land when the local D.A. refuses to press criminal
charges. AB 574 provides for a $250 fine for violations while, at the same
time, keeping open the option of criminal charges. WCU has done extensive
searches of DNR files using open records laws. We have provided key
legislators with compelling documentation of the horror and duplicity
behind the Mazo nude beach. We have also sent those legislators pictures
of children being taken to Mazo Beach, and we have given them copies of
police reports detailing the obscene-beyond-words behavior which sometimes
takes place in the presence of those children.
|
"As a British person, I wish to
let you know that I fully support the movement to stop naturists using
public beaches. I hope you succeed. I have seen enough of these
'naturists' and their selfish and offensive behaviour to last me a
lifetime. Don't think that they just want a few out-of-the-way beaches
to practice their bizarre lifestyles. They won't stop until they have a
right in law to be naked anywhere they please--in public parks, shopping
malls, even outside primary schools. Naturism isn't the innocent pastime
it pretends to be. It has a sinister side."
—A recent e-mail to WCU |
We have other plans to keep the pressure on in order to put an end
to the perverts' nude beachhead at Mazo as well. For instance, we are
doing a special mailing to 1,200 Mazo Beach area homes, the residents of
which signed our petition against the beach. We will strongly encourage
those individuals to contact their legislators and the governor at this
critical hour. Please do the same thing yourselves. It appears that AB 574
may well make it to the governor's desk for his yea or nay. There are many
reasons for even Jim Doyle to sign the bill, and we will give him even
more before it reaches his desk. Please seize this moment and contact your
legislators and the governor. Nudists from around the world are doing so;
what a shame if they show more zeal to protect their perversion than we
show to protect our own children and grandchildren, not to mention the law
of the Lord!
In closing, I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to all who support
this ministry with financial gifts and prayer. Thanks also to all those
who are willing to distribute WCU literature themselves. May the Lord
constantly remind us that unless we take a no-compromise stand on His
gospel and put it first, we cannot and will not win against the corrupt
politico-theological sodomite forces arrayed against us and the Word of
God!
Serving the Lamb of God
And the Lion of Judah,
Pastor Ralph Ovadal

The state football championship—
yes, that's one of
ours in the middle.
|
Football Championships
and a Mock Trial
On November 21, WCU spent the day giving out gospel
tracts and preaching the gospel at the WIAA high school football state
championships in Madison. While some of us passed out thousands of gospel
tracts to football fans arriving and leaving the three different games,
others took turns holding gospel banners and preaching. It was a glorious
day! We had a number of one-on-one witnessing opportunities; and the
preaching had a visible effect on many, especially the young people.

|
Preaching on the square in Baraboo
|
During a street preaching outing in Baraboo on a
Saturday, we noticed school buses lined up in front of the county
courthouse. It turned out that a mock trial involving high school students
from a number of schools was just getting over. We were able to hand out
gospel tracts to the young people as they came out of the courthouse to
board their busses. Almost every student took a tract to read on the ride
home!
May the Lord give more Christians a burning desire and deep love
for the millions of lost young people around us who are easy prey for
Satan in this evil culture! Back

WCU Reaches Thousands at
Urbana Missions
Conference

 |
WCU distributed
5,500 pieces of
literature to those
attending the
Urbana Missions
Conference in
Champaign/
Urbana, Illinois. |
On Saturday, December 27, a team from WCU traveled to
the Urbana mission conference in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois. This
triannual conference draws close to 20,000 young people as well as
missionaries and pastors from all across America and the world. The
decision to go to Urbana was a last minute one. Due to that and some
illness, only two people went. The timing was perfect as the conferees
were just arriving and had not yet been warned against taking literature
from outside people. WCU handed out What the Bible Really Says about
Homosexuality. With the flood of false teachings on homosexuality being
spread in the name of Christ, this brochure was very timely and eagerly
accepted by the conference attendees. In a relatively short space of time,
WCU gave out 5,500 brochures as young people literally lined up to get
their copies! Back

"Heart of the Matter" Program
Notice from Pastor Ralph Ovadal
I have decided to cut HOM
back from six to four programs per week. Our listenership is growing
nicely on the Internet and holding well among tape/CD subscribers; so that
is not a factor in this decision. However, after much prayer and
contemplation, I have come to strongly feel that cutting back to four
programs will cause the average program to have more listeners and thus be
more of a blessing to our guests. We also are able to cut down the
subscription price for tapes and CDs, which will be a blessing for those
who do not find the time to listen to every program. In addition, such a
schedule will also give me additional time for other ministry commitments.
Relative to the time issue, I believe that I will do a better job on the
programs if I am doing four instead of six.
I do hope that you all understand the reasons for HOM's new
schedule. Remember, you will still receive 120 minutes of programs per
week. For our part, we will commit to making HOM more intense, more
informative, and more of a blessing to you than ever before. May our Lord
be glorified and His cause be aided in this and all that we do!
+ "Dear
Brother Ovadal--My wife and I listen to your Heart of the Matter program

approach to issues that a lot of people, including Christians, would
prefer to avoid. . . . Your friend in Christ Jesus . . ."
