Public Ministry Update
October 27, 2009
"So shall my word be
that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it
shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing
whereto I sent it." Isaiah 55:11
Dear Friends,
As always, we have reason
to rejoice in the grace of God as we look back on the past several months
of ministry. And we feel thankful for all of you who have been such a part
of spreading so much truth so far and so wide, so many ways for so long.
The Public Ministry of Pilgrims Covenant Church, for which many of you
pray and support with gifts, undertakes to do this by weekly door-to-door
lit dropping, by mass mailings, by public witness with large signs, by
preaching and tract distribution at public events, and occasionally by
special efforts, such as our bus campaign this past spring in the Madison
area. Counting just last year and this year, PCC Public Ministry will have
distributed 290,500 copies of our various tracts and booklets. The vast
majority of those tracts were distributed by us or, in some cases, by
others whom we supplied tracts at no cost. In the case of a much smaller
amount, individuals made a gift to cover the cost of the tract and
mailing. As you know, we strive mightily to make the most efficient use of
the means the Lord has provided.
In speaking of our PCC
Public Ministry, I should also mention one of the aspects of our ministry
about which I seldom say much in newsletters. The "Heart of the Matter"
program has not only been very instrumental in the broadcast of much
truth, some of it "inconvenient truth," but has also done much to
encourage and even connect brethren together, including pastors, in this
country and in other places. For instance, just this week we heard from a
young Christian sister living in the United Kingdom with her husband. I
wish space permitted me to print the entire message written by this
gracious, sincere lady—space does not, but here is an excerpt of that
e-mail: ". . . we listen to Pastor Ovadal's broadcasts on the Heart of
the Matter regularly, and it has deeply encouraged and spurred on both my
husband and me to labor ever more diligently on this side of the ocean
while we are sojourning here. . . . Truly the Lord has His people
everywhere. May the Lord bless you and keep you all in the faithful
service of our Savior."
I hope you are greatly
encouraged by the sheer amount of truth which has been flooded into the
world by this ministry for which you have prayed and supported—some of
you for years. But, before I give just a brief summary of our work these
past two months, I want to look ahead to the next two months. In addition
to our weekly lit dropping of homes, churches, and businesses, and some
upcoming ministry at several smaller public events, we are planning on
being at the WIAA boys football championships in Madison, Wisconsin to
hold large Scripture signs and give out gospel tracts. This event draws a
huge crowd of predominantly high school students from all around our
state. If things go as they have in years past, we are very hopeful of
getting out at least several thousand gospel tracts. This has been very
good ground indeed for gospel sowing. In December, we are planning on
holding signs, preaching, and handing out our tract An Urgent Plea to
Roman Catholics at a multi-day Roman Catholic religious event which draws
100,000 attendees. Each person receiving our Urgent Plea tract will get
our The Value of Our Souls tract with it. Shamefully, there are very few
ministries and churches who even see Roman Catholics as lost souls in need
of the light of the gospel. Still fewer Christians take the trouble to
evangelize these poor bondservants of popery. So, we would appreciate any
who will pray for our efforts in the coming months.

I mentioned earlier our
weekly door-to-door tract distribution. When we are literature dropping
gospel tracts, we sometimes see evidence that Christians dwell in a
specific home. For instance, we may see a Scripture verse on a window or a
Christian bumper sticker on a car parked in the driveway. At such homes,
we also put An Urgent Plea to Roman Catholics on the door. It is so vital
that Christians learn the truth about Romanism. What we do at the homes of
Christians we also do at Roman Catholic homes as well as all churches of
all denominations and of course all Roman Catholic churches and buildings,
such as rectories, schools, or group housing for nuns or priests, etc. In
the case of Roman Catholic churches, or other buildings, we also
literature drop homes in the immediate area with both tracts, since a
higher percentage of Roman Catholics may live in such an area and those
citizens who are not Romanists are more subject to Romanist influence. Of
course, our tracts contain the address for our church web site where
individuals can, and do, access much more information on the Roman
Catholic religion and many other essential matters.
Before I close this letter,
I do want to tell you that on September 5 we had a very blessed and
fruitful time at the farmers' market in Madison. We displayed our large
Scripture signs to the teeming masses and handed out 1,600 gospel tracts
as well as quite a number of Gospels of John. Our Mike Foht, yours truly,
and our close brother in Christ visiting from England, Pastor David
Carson, also did a good amount of preaching. Such an evangelical witness
is of great worth when considering the value of the some 15,000 souls who
came under its influence.
On September 19, some
members of PCC gave out gospel tracts at the Green County Fall National
Truck and Tractor Pull. The persons attending seemed, as a whole, to be
very receptive to receiving the tracts, and we have hopes that souls were
saved through that witness. Below you will find a summary of our door to
door, heart by heart battle for the truth of God's word and the
salvation of souls. You may have noticed that Monroe shows up on every
list of every newsletter. That is because two single women in our church
have a non-stop gospel campaign on in that town. When they finish lit
dropping the town of 10,000 with one gospel tract, they begin with a
different one. "He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed,
shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him"
(Psalm 126:6).
In September, we also
supplied at no charge a quantity of our gospel tracts, our pro-life
tracts, and some of our tracts on homosexuality to a Christian friend who
gave them out via a table she manned at the Midwest Liberty Fest in Du
Quoin, Illinois. This lady also gave out several copies of my book More
Than These to ecumenical pro-life activists.
In closing, on behalf of
all of us here, I want to again express my appreciation to those who pray
for this work and those also who support it.
Sincerely,
Pastor Ralph Ovadal
