Pilgrims Covenant Church Public Ministry Update
June 7, 2007

Dear Friends,

I want to once again thank all of you who pray for and support the far-reaching work of our PCC public ministry efforts. It is this support that allows us to put in orders for another 100,000 of our various tracts for distribution. I trust you will be greatly encouraged by this ministry summary and also by the press release I have included, which we sent out in response to a decision issued by the State of Wisconsin Court of Appeals, District 1 on May 30. I have read the decision, and it is a well-written one based on the law and the facts. In other words, it is a refreshingly unbiased decision, which is not an outcome one can always depend on these days. Most importantly, it sends the signal to Sodom's heirs that if they decide to recklessly defame a Christian pastor or ministry leader, they may wind up spending hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of dollars defending themselves. So we gratefully bless the Lord for His mercy in this matter.

We are also encouraged that an American missionary in Poland is translating our What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality into Polish for distribution in that country. A Russian ministry leader has already done that very thing in his own country. We have also been contacted by a ministry in Florida who purchased at cost a large quantity of CDs of my sermon on the Christian education of children as opposed to handing them over to the state system. The sermon is titled "None Dare Call It Sin." We continue to hear from "Heart of the Matter" listeners all over the world and are pleased to know that the program, which is funded through our PCC Public Ministry, is of some value to the body of Christ as well. But with an eye on the necessity of filling you in on our last two months of public ministry work, I will close here and direct you there.

Day of Silence

The sodomites staged their annual Day of Silence April 18 this year. This propaganda stunt, which is held in a number of government schools across our nation, seems to be losing steam. This year, PCC went to Monroe, Lake Mills, and Oregon high schools to witness, hold signs, and hand out our What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality. We also provided tracts for others to hand out at schools in Wauwatosa, Racine, Hartford, and Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and Omaha, Nebraska.

Hello, Dalai!

On May 4, PCC was at the Kohl Center in Madison for a gospel witness to the sold-out crowd of 12,000 which had come to sit at the feet of the Dalai Lama. We held our large Scripture signs, preached the gospel, and handed out our gospel tract Heaven or Hell? Due to security problems, the vast majority of Dalai's disciples ended up locked out of the Kohl Center for quite some time—a captive audience of thousands for our preaching. Mike Foht, Dale Stanford, and I each took up a different post and all preached at the same time to different portions of the stranded multitude.

I felt such a great desire to preach to the lost peace-seekers about the Prince of Peace that I asked the Lord to protect my voice and help me to continue to preach long after I would normally have to cease. He granted my request, and I was able to preach longer than I have ever done at one time. What a blessing that was to me and, I hope, to others, even if they did not see it as so at the time.

Of course, we did have to endure a certain amount of mocking from the crowd; but for the most part, it was very quiet. I suppose they were wanting to impress the many Tibetans mingled in among them. The worst confrontation we had was at the end of the ministry with a "Christian" who first told us we were doing things all wrong and, when confronted with the Word of God, turned to vile language and mocking!

Farmers' Market and Syttende Mai

We preached to the slowly shuffling crowd at the farmers' market on the Capitol Square in Madison on May 19. We used quite a number of Scripture signs as well as one banner. Four of us preached, and we gave out about 1,000 gospel tracts. Later that same day, a brother from our church, Nick Bergum, handed out hundreds of gospel tracts to the Syttende Mai celebrants in Stoughton.

Planned Parenthood Media Skirmish

In early April, the Monroe Times ran a lengthy editorial I wrote in response to an article on the 10,000 home mailing PCC sent out here in Green County in which we exposed an under-the-radar-screen agreement between PPM and the Green County Health Department. In mid-March, Planned Parenthood of Monroe had run a large ad in a local newspaper, touting their "services." The expensive ad was clearly a desperate bid to rehabilitate their reputation after our huge mailing which once again had exposed Planned Parenthood's slimy business. (See the editorial below.) The Monroe Times article, slanted as it seemed toward PPM, was also because of that mailing and led to my editorial. So in the end, 10,000 homes received a comprehensive, powerful exposé of Planned Parenthood; PPM spent big bucks trying to regain lost ground; and a newspaper article which seemed to help them ended up giving us the last word in the latest skirmish in our nearly nineteen-year war. We salute the Monroe Times for their balance and professional integrity in allowing me to put in that editorial response, and we thank the Lord for once again showing us that He does bless a principled stand based on His Word.

Court of Appeals Vindicates Christian Attorney!
A statement by Pastor Ralph Ovadal

Subsequent to our WCU conference, the homosexual organization Action Wisconsin issued a press release in which the outrageous, false claim was made that one of the WCU speakers, a pastor, advocated the murder of homosexuals. When Action Wisconsin officials refused to retract their claim, Attorney Jim Donohoo filed a defamation lawsuit against them on behalf of the pastor. On June 28, 2005, Judge Patricia McMahon handed down a summary judgment dismissing the action. Consequently, Action Wisconsin attorneys filed a motion with McMahon seeking costs and actual attorney's fees on the basis that the suit prosecuted by Donohoo was frivolous. The court then awarded Action Wisconsin costs in the amount of $2,220.09 and attorney's fees in the amount of $85,232.50. Further, Judge McMahon took the opportunity to humiliate Attorney Donohoo in her decision while Action Wisconsin pricey Attorney Lester A. Pines went out of his way to ridicule Donohoo's professional skills.

However, today, May 30, the State of Wisconsin Court of Appeals, District 1, reversed Judge McMahon's judgment and order, concluding, "Based on our analysis, we do conclude that Donohoo had a reasonable basis to commence and continue the action. Accordingly, we reverse the trial court's order granting Action Wisconsin's motion seeking attorney's fees on the grounds that the case was frivolous. The underlying action was not frivolous and therefore the trial court erred in so ruling."

I congratulate Attorney Jim Donohoo, a Christian brother and friend, on his hard-fought victory, won by the grace of God. Now Action Wisconsin can pay their own attorney's fees; and perhaps they, and other opponents of Christian liberty, will think twice before so viciously smearing their opponents. This court decision represents a repudiation of the heavy-handed intimidation tactics of Action Wisconsin and their high-power law firm led by Attorney Lester A. Pines. I rejoice that the professional skills and integrity of Jim Donohoo have been vindicated. Our whole church is deeply grateful to the Lord for this victory. "Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield" (Psalm 33:20).
