Pilgrims Covenant Church
Public Ministry Update
December 29, 2011

"So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him."
Isaiah 59:19

Dear Friends,

Although this reaches you at the dawning of a new year, I suppose we could title it our "Fall Ministry Roundup." The last months of 2011 were the capstone of a very fruitful, encouraging year of ministry in the midst of what are, in many ways, increasingly dark and discouraging times. But we of Pilgrims Covenant Church have faith that the Lord will yet again, in His own time, for His glory, gloriously make "bare his holy arm" (Isaiah 52:10) through the preaching of the gospel and the witness of His faithful people. Until then, we rest in the assurances He has given that a faithful proclamation of His gospel truth and a zealous contending for the faith once delivered unto the saints is never in vain and will most assuredly bear much fruit.

In 2011, we preached, passed out many thousands of tracts, and displayed our gospel signs to what can only be called multitudes. In previous newsletters, I shared in detail our open-air gospel witnessing to:

  • The fans at the WIAA state boys wrestling championships at the field house in Madison.

  • The teeming crowds (estimated at 80,000) of union people, Marxists, "Christian" socialists, and Obamanista thugs as well as neo-hippies, old and young, occupying the capitol square in Madison. Of course, a good number of police also benefited from our gospel witness.

  • The very large number of predominately young fans attending the WIAA state boys basketball championships at the Kohl Center in Madison.

  • The thousands of vendors and shoppers and strollers at the farmers' market on the Capitol Square in Madison.

  • The crowds, including a great many families with children, arriving at the huge Fourth of July celebration at Warner Park in Madison, which is said to be the largest one-day yearly event in Wisconsin.

  • The Romanist Marian worshippers, including priests, at the Lady of Good Help Shrine near Green Bay on "The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary."

  • Young and old attending outdoor activities connected to the Monticello Homecoming.

In 2011, we also did one mass mailing. It was to the residents in the Champion, Wisconsin area where the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help is located. In 2010, the Vatican made that shrine the first officially recognized apparition site in America. Each address received one of our Heaven or Hell? gospel tracts and An Urgent Plea to Roman Catholics

As I said, past newsletters have already covered those events and also included lists of the cities and towns in which we lit dropped various tracts. But picking up where those newsletters left off, September found us back at the farmers' market on the Capitol Square in Madison. We set up our Scripture signs in three different locations around the square and gave out almost 1,000 tracts. In October, we witnessed on the city square of Monroe on a sunny Saturday to the crowd attending the Chili Cook-Off. We were very happy with the number of tracts accepted and the many who saw the large Scripture sign we set up. Then in November, we were at the WIAA boys football championships at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison where we shared the gospel with a flood of football fans from around the state. This year, only four of us were able to make it. One of our number held a large Scripture sign; and in the gusty wind, she had her hands full with that. The rest of us handed out tracts, at times as fast as our hands could move. In the end, we were able to pass out about 1,100 tracts, and I am not exaggerating when I tell you that only a handful ended up on the ground. We not only saw those tracts going into purses and pockets but, in some cases, also being read immediately.

In December, we set up our open-air witness on the square in Monroe. The event was the holiday parade, and as always, it was a very cold night. But our hearts were warmed to be able to give out gospel tracts and display our Scripture signs to not only the crowd of young and old but also to the individuals on passing floats, including large junior high and high school choirs which packed two different flatbed trailers.

This past fall, we also twice set up a gospel witness on busy intersections, displaying our large Scripture signs to motorists in Edgerton in October, then in Monroe on "Black Friday."

We enjoyed a good autumn of gospel lit dropping in the following towns: Evansville, Edgerton, Belleville, Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Darlington, Monroe, Wisconsin; and Stockton, Illinois. In the artsy tourist town of Mineral Point, I was not at all surprised to be accosted not once but twice by enraged free thinkers who were infuriated on account of my "shoving" propaganda down the public's throat. One even offered--in fact, several times at the top of his lungs--to knock out my teeth. He didn't say so, but I believe the offer was one of those free-of-charge, public-service-type things.

One of our PCC men also lit dropped our tract What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality in several areas out-of-state where he was working.

By the way, among those our PCC Public Ministry provided with free tracts this quarter was a Christian brother in Australia to whom we sent 1,200 gospel tracts for distribution in that country. Below you will find a list of others who have received our tracts for distribution.

For those of you with the Internet, you will also find some links to a recent "Heart of the Matter" program I believe is especially important and also to a recent article I wrote. We would also be happy to send a free CD of that program, and a couple of very closely related ones, along with the article to those of you without the Internet.

We are looking forward, Lord willing, to much ministry, in many places, this coming year which includes the biennial multi-day Cheese Days celebration in Monroe. That event in September pulls in huge crowds. At the last Cheese Days, we handed out over 10,000 gospel tracts. We hope, with the Lord's help, to hand out even more this coming year, and our church has also rented three full-sized billboards on which we will have gospel messages posted from September 10--October 7. Speaking of billboards, with this newsletter we have included a picture of a pro-life billboard our church has put up in Monroe for the month of January. I should mention, for those of you getting the black and white copy of this newsletter, the billboard is full-color and really beautiful.

And speaking of tracts, our heartfelt thanks to those of you who have so generously helped cover that cost, which, given the number of tracts we distribute, is a large one indeed. A hearty thanks also to those who remember this ministry in prayer. "Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel" (Philippians 1:27).

Sincerely,

Ralph Ovadal
