Dear Friends,
For quite some time now, WCU has been working hard in many different ways
to put an end to the tax-funded nudity of Mazo beach. We have orchestrated
extensive grassroots educational and lobbying campaigns, we have conducted
a series of protests at the beach, we have worked throughout the media, I
have made ample use of my own radio program, and I have met with various
government officials. On Tuesday, February 13, a WCU-funded lawsuit was
filed against the beach on behalf of a couple whose canoe rental business
has been severely injured by the DNR's reckless allowance of nudity on
Mazo beach.
We are determined to return Mazo beach and that beautiful stretch of the
Wisconsin River to the families of our state. We are determined that the
immoral metastasizing cancer which has taken root on that beach be excised
before it spreads throughout our state. We are determined that the
families in the Mazo beach area and throughout the state be protected from
the unsavory, even dangerous, characters that the DNR's own records have
shown are drawn to the beach. I know that many of you stand with us in
this; you have shown it by your prayers and actions in the past. Now it is
time for you to pray and act again.
Recently, I met with newly appointed DNR Secretary Darrell Bazzell. My
impression of Mr. Bazzell was a good one. He seems to be a very sincere,
concerned individual. Whether he will have the courage to do what is right
and put an end to the nudity at Mazo beach is the outstanding question at
this time. I know that he is even now meeting with other state officials
and reviewing the situation. Mr. Bazzell needs to hear from all of us as
soon as possible. You can bet he is hearing from the leaders of the nudist
groups who have claimed Mazo beach as their exclusive property; he must
hear from us.
We are at a crucial point in this battle. We have come so far. Even the
press has abandoned the mantra that "nudity in itself is not illegal
in Wisconsin." Everyone knows that the nudity at Mazo beach is
unlawful; and everyone knows that state officials have been pandering to a
sexually perverse elite at the expense of hard-working taxpayers, many of
them moms and dads who do not appreciate their government officials
further polluting the moral climate in which their children must grow up.
Secretary Bazzell is making a decision. He must hear from you. Please
contact him immediately and let him know that you expect him to put an end
to the nudity at Mazo beach. Let him know that he will have our undying
gratitude if he will only protect the moral climate and the children of
our state. Also contact Governor Scott McCallum and urge him, as the chief
executive of the State of Wisconsin, to make sure that Secretary Bazzell
ends the nudity at the beach and to support him when he does. Lastly,
those of you in Dane County should contact D.A. Brian Blanchard's office
and tell him that you expect him to prosecute any persons whom the DNR
arrests for violating state laws and DNR administrative laws by exposing
themselves on the Mazo beach. Below is the information that you will need
to act now at this very critical hour. If you feel that you only have time
to contact one official, make it Secretary Bazzell. Consider both calling
and writing or e-mailing if you have time. Make copies of this letter and
pass them out to your friends and at church. I cannot stress enough how
important it is that we all act now! By God's grace, I really feel that
victory is finally within our grasp. Please do your part to ensure it does
not slip away.
With Gratitude,
Pastor Ralph Ovadal
Director
