Yesterday, May 28, about seventy Christians
with Wisconsin Christians United spent the day on the parking lot and the
DNR drive leading to the Department of Natural Resources nude beach near
Mazomanie on the Wisconsin River. WCU was on the scene at 9:00 AM with
signs, banners, gospel tracts, and amplified sound equipment.
DNR officers treated the Christians with contempt throughout the
day, making numerous threats of arrest based on the content of the
messages being shared with beachgoers. Meanwhile, the nudists spewed out
profanities unmolested by law enforcement officers and unrestrained by
disorderly conduct statutes. One beachgoer also attempted to pepper spray
a young Christian man in the face but could not get the pepper spray
canister to work. As of today, no charges have been filed against that
man. Nightly news broadcasts showed two wardens on the beach smiling and
laughing as they "watched over" the sunbathers. At one point, a
group of wardens was asked, "What will you do when you stand before
God's judgment throne?" One mockingly responded, "I will tell
Him He did a hell of a job creating the human body."
The numerous officers on the scene also videotaped the Christians
with WCU constantly during the event and, in fact, had video cameras
trained on Pastor Ovadal throughout the entire day. Several individuals
with WCU will be turning in written complaints concerning the conduct of
DNR officers.
At one point in the mid-afternoon, WCU successfully blocked and
turned around a family who was intent on taking a young child,
approximately nine years-old to the beach. The family was spotted at a
distance and Christians quietly moved forward to effect the turnaway and
rescue before officers could react.
"Yesterday, the Lord's hand was evident in so many
ways, and we thank Him that a strong stand was made for His kingdom and
His righteousness. The state of Wisconsin seems determined to play the
pimp for an elitist group who contend that they have a right to cavort
naked on public land in front of the whole world, including young people.
For our part, we are determined to stand up for those young people and our
Lord until this wrong is righted and the abominable public nudity at Mazo
beach is only a fond memory for twisted minds."
Pastor Ralph Ovadal, Director, Wisconsin Christians United
