What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality

Homosexuality: The Truth

  October 27, 2001
Attention McFarland Residents!
Is one of your neighbors an accessory to child abuse?

Sign at the entrance
of an Illinois state park.

Darrell Bazzell lives at 5406 Valley Drive, McFarland. Mr. Bazzell is the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources, which is the highest post in that state department. In spite of holding that position since February, 2001, Mr. Bazzell has failed to put an end to the open nudity which takes place on the DNR owned and operated beach near Mazomanie on the Wisconsin River. Each weekend throughout the spring, summer, and early fall, hundreds of adults cavort naked on that tax-funded beach in full view of the public, including young people who canoe and fish on the river. Even worse, each weekend, children of all ages are taken to the beach, stripped naked, and viewed by the hundreds of nude adults present - some of whom take cameras to the beach. (See reverse side.)

"The tolerance of public nudity and sexual activity has created and encouraged a perverse atmosphere. . . . In 1997, Dane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Mazomanie Unit - Conservation Drive - to investigate complaints of outstanding warrants, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, public sexual activity, prostitution, underage drinking, vandalism, domestic battery, and death investigations."
Confidential Memo on Mazo Beach from Conservation Warden Wayne Schutte to DNR official Ruthe Badger, March 26, 1998. Obtained in a Freedom of Information search by WCU.

For several years, DNR officials have defended the Mazo beach nudists by promulgating the myth that public nudity, in and of itself, is not unlawful. Of course, everyone knows that is a lie and that persons appearing naked in public anywhere but Mazo beach are instantly arrested. Those who would argue to the contrary should try walking down the public sidewalk in McFarland naked and see what happens. While it is true that the Dane County district attorney has not been eager to prosecute the Mazo nudists, if Mr. Bazzell would order DNR law enforcement officials under him to arrest the nudists for lewd and lascivious conduct and insist that the DA prosecute them, no doubt he would do so. However, Mr. Bazzell also has many other tools which he could employ to put an end to the nudity at Mazo beach. For instance, he could order his department to simply put up "No Nudity" signs like other states have done in their parks. Should persons disobey the signs, he could prosecute them under DNR administrative law just as people are prosecuted for building campfires or snowmobiling or fishing where it is not allowed.

"I believe the DNR could take an administrative act and could say, 'on this land owned by the state, nudity is not allowed.'"
Dane County D.A. Brian Blanchard during a February 13, 2001 interview on WISC Channel 3, Madison.

Mr. Bazzell could also order those who expose themselves on DNR property to be prosecuted for disorderly conduct, either under state or DNR administrative law. Mr. Bazzell could shut the beach down totally if necessary.

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
James 4:17

The truth is, Darrell Bazzell is without excuse in his refusal to protect the children of Mazo beach, and by extension, all the children of our state. No matter where people stand on a wide range of issues, most agree that children have a right to a childhood; they have a right to a time of innocence. Most people would agree that parading children naked in the midst of hundreds of nude adults is cruel, crude, inappropriate, unlawful, and dangerous. DNR Secretary Darrell Bazzell has the authority to put an end to the disgusting, sick situation at the Mazo nude beach; the question is, Why won't he do what is right? Why won't he protect the children of Mazo beach, and by extension, all the children of Wisconsin? Why will Mr. Bazzell not move to put an end to the obscene behavior at Mazo beach before it spreads to other locations around our state? By not doing his duty in this regard, Darrell Bazzell has become an accessory to child abuse. It is our hope and prayer that he will rethink his position and do what is right.

"The majority of the pedophile images that we have, the majority of the child pornography that we get out of the United States of America comes from nude beaches. They come, of course, from the private nude beaches; because we haven't had that many people that foolish, or that foolhardy, or that gutless to assign public space to such activity [until now]. . . . The nudist colonies are the places where pedophiles have forever not only been able to get sexual access to children and to abuse children, but quite definitely, to take photographs that become part of the pedophiles' bona fides and that are exchanged and that are paid for throughout this country and sent to Europe and so forth. And the pain that that causes those children . . . is, of course, incalculable. . . . This [Mazo beach] is an attempt, of course, to establish legally a place in the United States . . . a beachhead for child sexual abuse. They're [the nudists are] establishing a beachhead for obtaining children for sexual purposes - that is what this is all about . . . it will spread all across the state; it will spread all across the country."     - Dr. Judith Reisman

A couple with a toddler in a stroller and a young girl on the way to the nude beach pass concerned Christians. Should little girls such as this be put in the company of hundreds of nude men? The DNR  apparently sees no harm in it.

September 3, 2001: A little girl returning from Mazo beach. Why won't the DNR protect little ones such as this? Perhaps someday, one of them will ask that question with a lawsuit after surviving a childhood of abuse, some of it directly related to the Mazo nude beach which the DNR continues to protect and maintain with tax dollars.

August 11, 2001: When a Christian took this girl's picture on the Mazo nude beach parking lot, the man with the woman holding her sneered, "You can get a better picture in about twenty minutes." How can DNR officials sleep at night?

The DNR made sure the girl made it. Warden John Glennon is in the truck in the background. Wardens often escort the children of Mazo beach to their wretched destination while warning Christians not to interfere with the process. The second picture shows a little boy who was taken to the beach by the same man. Both children told Christians present that the man is neither their father nor grandfather. This information was passed on to Warden Glennon, but he shrugged it off as usual.
