Today, the State Assembly Committee on Tourism will
hold a hearing on AB574, a bill which bans public nudity on any property
owned by the State of Wisconsin. Pastor Ralph Ovadal of Wisconsin
Christians United will be testifying at the hearing which begins at 10:30
A.M. in the North Hearing Room (2nd Floor North) of the State Capitol.
Wisconsin Christians United has waged an intense,
multi-faceted, five-year-long effort to put an end to the nudity at Mazo
Beach, a Department of Natural Resources property on the Wisconsin River.
Today, Pastor Ovadal will present committee members
with, along with other documents, pictures of some of the many children
whom WCU has seen being taken to the nude beach at Mazo.
"We have always held that public nudity is
unlawful in Wisconsin already. However, since the Department of Natural
Resources is so intent on parsing the current law in order to claim their
hands are tied and they must allow hundreds of naked adults to cavort
naked in front of naked children at Mazo Beach, it is time for this
legislation. If for some reason it is not passed, we will simply redouble
and intensify our efforts to close down that tax-funded, open-air
bathhouse on the Wisconsin River."
