A transvestite man in a purple
dress on the way to the Mazo nude beach, August 28, 1999. |

Yesterday, December 28, the Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources charged Pastor Ralph Ovadal with
disorderly conduct for leading a group of forty men who blocked a DNR
gravel driveway to the Mazomanie nude beach for eight hours last August
28. During the blockade, which was orderly and peaceful, Pastor Ovadal
pleaded with DNR officials to do their job and close down the beach
themselves in order to prevent a number of crimes from taking place,
including indecent exposure and possible sexual crimes. They refused. A
small number of nudists, some with children, did bypass the blockade on
foot and walk the 1.2 miles to the Wisconsin River beach. Of that small
number, three men were arrested for performing sexual acts on the beach in
the vicinity of the children.
"It is outrageous that the same law enforcement agencies, the DNR
and the Dane County D.A, which have refused to prosecute the Mazo nudists
for indecent exposure, have issued charges against a pastor for trying to
protect children from that criminal activity (Wis. Statute 944.20). It
does not take a rocket scientist to deduce why it has taken four months to
issue these charges, no doubt at the behest of the sexually perverse elite
who use the Mazo beach and have been demanding that such action be taken.
DNR officials obviously waited until the week between Christmas and New
Year's Day, right before Y2K, in hope that their shameful act will not be
publicized. They may also be hoping that after so long, I may have lost or
taped over the audio and video tapes which contain every word spoken to me
by DNR officials during the blockade. While I cannot predict the success
of the first half of that strategy, the latter half is an abysmal failure.
The audio/video record of the Mazo blockade will not only defeat the
charge against me, but it will also make the DNR look less than brilliant
and far from principled for bringing it in the first place. With the help
of the Lord, I plan on winning this case, which promises to be a very
costly one in every way for the State of Wisconsin."
Pastor Ralph Ovadal, Director, Wisconsin Christians United
"And they departed from the presence of
the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his
name."
