On October 16, we gathered in front of a
reportedly lesbian-owned coffee shop in Evansville, Wisconsin. The event
was a Democratic fundraiser featuring a raft of liberal politicians
including Congresslesbian Tammy Baldwin and openly sodomite State Rep.
Mark Pocan. Since we were on hand plenty early, we were able to witness to
virtually everyone who came to the crowded event, including the two
politicians just mentioned. We handed out the WCU tract What
the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality.
Our signs included a five-foot-high one bearing the headline
"Homosexuality: What the Bible Says" and then a list of biblical
terms and citations. The bottom of the sign had the statement "Repent
and turn to Christ!" We also held other signs dealing with
homosexuality and the gospel.
The response was hostile, threatening,
and—in one case—physical. We were told that what we were doing was
disgusting and hateful and should be outlawed. Police were called to
cleanse the sidewalk and town of our presence but to no avail as the
officer was very professional. Early on, one lesbian arriving for the
event stopped to harangue us. When she realized that she was talking to
yours truly, she threw her hands skyward, screaming, "Great God, help
us! He's in our town!"; went running to her car; and drove
frantically away. By the grace of God, I was able to walk a long distance
with Rep. Baldwin when she arrived and witness to her as her driver parked
well down the street from the coffee shop. When Baldwin resurfaced after
the event, I preached her back to her car. I have shared the gospel with
Tammy up-close and personal more times than I can count, including once
backstage after a television debate which I did with her. I am not giving
up hope that someday Tammy might yet be saved. Mike Foht was also able to
spend some quality time preaching to the hard-hearted sodomite Rep. Mark
Pocan as he was leaving the coffee shop. Suffice it to say, the little
town of Evansville had plenty to think about when the dust settled on
October 16.
